Dr Avila-Funes (MD, PhD) is an undergraduate and graduate professor of geriatrics and his main line of research is frailty and cognitive decline. He is a researcher associate of the SEPIA team (psychoépidemiologie du vieillissement et des maladies chroniques U1219) of the INSERM (France).
He is a member of the national system of researchers and of the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico as well as the Latin American Academy of Medicine for the Older Adults.
He is currently the leader of the geriatric service at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition Salvador Zubirán in Mexico City.

He studied and worked in the Universities of Parma, Rome, and Palermo. From 1989 to 1992 worked at the Cornell University Medical Center, New York, NY, USA, and from 1993 to 1995 as a Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, USA.
He is an expert on problems related to the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases associated with aging.
Member of numerous national and international scientific societies and appreciated speaker in Italy and abroad. He is the author of about 500 publications in national and international scientific journals.
Fernando Botta

Dr. Fernando Cono Botta Cabrera is a Doctor in Medicine who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, UDELAR in 1984; Specialist in Pre-Old age and Geriatrics-Gerontology, Graduate School-Faculty of Medicine, UDELAR, graduated in 1999.
He has a degree in Healthcare Services Management from the Faculty of Economics and Administration and Faculty of Medicine, UDELAR, graduated in 2006 and a Medical Informatics degree from the Faculty of Engineering, UDE obtained in 2013.
He’s currently Chief of Medicine in Hospital Florida and Technical Director in COMEF, Uruguay.
He has been Council Member of the Latin American Committee of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (COMLAT-IAGG) since September 2016.
He has served as a member in multiple government programs in his country involving elderly people and been Director and teacher in training courses in various education sectors associated with human resources development and training in Geriatrics and Gerontology, being a Latin-American referent in these areas.
Gustavo Duque

Prof. Gustavo Duque MD, PhD, FRACP, FGSA is a geriatrician and a clinical and biomedical researcher with special interest in the mechanisms and treatment of osteoporosis, sarcopenia and frailty in older persons. His major research interests include the elucidation of the mechanisms and potential new treatments for age-related bone loss, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, osteosarcopenia and frailty. He is also looking at the effect of vitamin D, exercise and proteins on bone and muscle mass. He is currently Chair of Medicine and Director of the Australian Institute for Musculoskeletal Science (AIMSS) at the University of Melbourne and Western Health. He is the author of more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and of multiple book chapters and has edited 4 books in the ageing and musculoskeletal fields (two of them on Osteosarcopenia). He is also the Director of the Fracture Care and Prevention Program at Western Health (Melbourne). As part of this Program, Prof. Duque implemented a Falls and Fractures clinic at Sunshine Hospital where patients are assessed for falls and fractures risk in a comprehensive manner.
Gaetan Gavazzi

Dr Gavazzi accomplished his medical school in Nantes (France) (1985-91) and moved to Grenoble (France) to be graduated in Internal Medicine (1998), and Geriatric and Infectiology (2000 and 2004). Its first postgraduate position was in Grenoble in Internal and Geriatric Medicine (1998-2000). He moved to Geneva University Hospital (2000-2005) where he developed infectiology in Geriatric medicine at the Geriatric department; he also developed its basic research background with a PhD thesis regarding the role NOX enzymes producing reactive oxygen species in age-related diseases in animal models.
He published more than 140 peer-reviewed papers and participated to 500 communications at national and international levels.
Norah Keating

Professor Norah Keating is a social gerontologist whose theoretical and empirical research has created evidence, challenged discourses and influenced policy in global, social and physical contexts of ageing. She has placed this work on the international stage through the Global Social Issues on Ageing which fosters collaboration and critical thinking about ageing at the interfaces of regional issues and global trends. Professor Keating holds academic appointments in 3 world regions: University of Alberta, Canada; Swansea University, UK; North-West University, South Africa. She is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, the Academy of Social Sciences (UK) and the Gerontological Society of America (U.S.). She is past president of the Canadian Association on Gerontology and the North American Region of the IAGG. In 2017 she was awarded the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics Presidential Award for the global reach of her international work.

He has authored more than 420 peer reviewed scientific papers. He is editor of numerous books, among them, the 1st editor of the Oxford textbook of Geriatric Medicine (3rd Ed), He was also the first author of the European report “Transforming the future of ageing” (2019).
Manuel Montero-Odasso

Dr. Manuel Montero-Odasso is a Professor at the University of Western Ontario, Canada (Departments of Medicine, and Epidemiology and Biostatistics). He is also a clinician-scientist at the Lawson Health Research Institute and serves as team leader at the Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging (CCNA) and team co-leader at the Ontario Neurodegenerative Research Initiative (ONDRI).
He leads the “Gait & Brain Lab” at Parkwood Institute (London, Ontario), with the goal of understanding mechanisms and potential treatments of mobility and cognitive decline in aging by focusing in the interaction between gait performance and cognition. He has established the use of “motor biomarkers” like slowing gait speed and dual-task gait to predict frailty, falls, and dementia.
He has published over 150 scientific articles, and has received several accolades. He serves as associate editor of aging journals including the Journal of Gerontology Medical Sciences, Geriatrics, and Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.
John Morley

John E. Morley, M.B., B.Ch. is a Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Geriatric Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He has edited more than 20 books and published more than 1400 papers, with major research emphases on the role of neuropeptides in the modulation of hormonal responses and behavior. Clinically, he focuses on diabetes, nutrition, frailty, sarcopenia, cachexia and cognitive assessment.
